Explicito versus Implicito...una Continuación

Recently, my philosophy class took a walk around the school.  We began in the main office of our building where we read and examined the vision, the mission and the values of our institution--these written elements, of course, reflect part of the "explicit curriculum" of Instituto Laurens.

Afterwards, we walked around the campus to see what the "implicit messages" were, to see what was being said without being said!  Here's what we "read" as walked around the campus:
     We care about children and want to provide for those whose parents work late
     We provide a safe environment for our students and teachers
     We have stood the test of time - over 125 years of educational labor
     While we are a bilingual school, we are also proudly Mexican
     We take seriously caring for the environment
     Sports are important, but a well-trained mind comes first

These are the messages we got from walking around the school--nothing written, but messages that come through loud and clear.  I'm proud that our school sends these messages...to teachers, parents, students, and prospective students.  Go, Laurens!

Recientemente, mi clase de filosofía y yo hicimos un paseo alrededor de nuestro campus.  Comenzamos en la dirección de nuestro edificio donde leemos y examinamos la visión, la misión y los valores de nuestra institución--estos elementos escritos, claro, reflejan parte del "currículum explicito" del Instituto Laurens.

Después, caminamos alrededor del campus para ver cuales mensajes implícitos pudimos encontrar, para ver lo que fue dicho sin ser dicho!  Aquí es lo que "leemos" mientras caminábamos:

     Tenemos un interés en el cuidado de niños--durante y después del día escolar

     Queremos proveer un ambiente seguro para los alumnos y maestros

     Hemos durado la prueba del tiempo - más que 125 años de labores educacionales

     Mientras somos una escuela bilingüe, todavía somos orgullosamente mexicanas

     Tomamos en cuenta seriamente el cuidado del ambiente natural

     Los deportes son importantes pero un intelecto desarrollado tiene primer lugar

Estos son los mensajes lo que encontramos en nuestra caminata--nada escrito sino mensajes que salen bien claro.  Yo estoy orgulloso que enviamos estos mensajes...a los maestros, a los padres, a los alumnos y a los estudiantes perspectivos.  Viva, Laurens!
